TAS Knives Folder: Mitrul - Tumbled/OD Green
The Mitrul from TAS Knives is a stout beefy folder that is ready to make mincemeat of whatever it comes up against! The Tanto blade profile features a plethora of edge bevels and grinds that are truly awe inspiring making for a blade that not only looks incredible but will also perform. To top it all of he then gave the blade a wear hiding stonewashed finish. The handle is made up of three parts, the bottom layer being hardened AEB-L steel, the middle section is PET-CF plastic, and the top layer being titanium. All three sections feature contouring and milled details for a sweet futuristic/steampunk vibe especially paired with the modified axis lock using a shock absorber from an RC car. Lanyard hole at butt-end
The Blade: Hand complex ground tanto profile with a stonewashed finish, custom thumb studs, and a fuller and top sedge.
The Handle: three slabs of AEB-L, PLT-CF plastic, and titanium with bronze, and OD green finishes contain the shock absorber axis locking mechanism. Carbon fiber infused backspacer with integrated lanyard hole at butt-end.
About the Mitrul from the man himself: "Mitrul" translates to "maddog" from the highland Georgian language, where my roots come from. It’s one of the first knives I ever made in my workshop, and over time, it’s become a real powerhouse of a folder. It started out as a big, rugged fixed-blade knife with a rough but already distinctive combined grind. Now, Mitrul has evolved into one of the most challenging knives I’ve ever crafted. The blade alone is a feat, with four primary bevels, a false edge, and a fuller that nearly intersects the cutting edge — a tricky design that’s become part of my signature style.
All of this is done entirely by hand on a grinder, no milling machines involved. It might be one of the toughest grinds in the knife industry.
The handle is something special too. It’s made up of three layers: titanium on top, a middle layer of PET-CF plastic (which can handle anything from sunlight to chemicals without a problem), and the bottom layer is hardened AEB-L steel, finished off with a Cerakote coating. For the lock, I’ve put my own twist on the axis lock, using a shock absorber from an RC car instead of a traditional spring. The knife comes with a leather sheath featuring a warrior in heavy armor holding the Mitrul itself.
Mitrul is always a challenge for me, but it’s also a true reflection of my style — with a focus on intricate details and a complex yet harmonious design.
TAS Knives are hand crafted by designer and maker Soso Tumasov from Tbilisi, Georgia (as in the country Georgia not the state). Many of Soso's pieces have an unique almost cyberpunk, futuristic apocalypse vibe to them, setting them apart from most of the blades you see on the market today. On top of the killer aesthetics, he also incorporates complex multi angle grind lines in his blades that truly show off his talent and dedication to the craft and is amazing at finishing common knife making materials such as titanium in a very innovative manner for an end result that stands out and execution that actually delivers.
