Hidetoshi Nakayama Secret Skull Folder

Hidetoshi Nakayama is a Japanese knife maker and artist. He is renowned for his detail skills and old world craftsmanship. He attends only one show a year in the USA and his stuff sells out instantly before the doors even open! This Secret Skull slipjoint is another of Hidetoshi's unique, hand crafted creations. Painstakingly made by hand (no CNC machines), this intricate piece is a perfect example of Hidetoshi's ingenuity and craftsmanship. The frame is made from polished and textured steel, uniquely engraved with a winding, textured, almost knot-like design throughout the entire length with several windowed holes in the handle. The hand ground blade has a satin finish with textured flats and textured spine, making for an overall clean, bright natural looking knife. The blade locks at both half and full open. Satin finished pins fold the knife together. The spine and spring have matching textured and polished finish.

But what is up with the "Secret Skull" name, you ask? Well this is where Hidetoshi's design and ingenuity are showed as the master he is! If you position the scale juuuust right and look through, both sides of the frame line up to reveal a hidden skull silhouette that can only be seen in one spot! Even better, if sat on the included wood stand, light can shine though the frame and make a skull shadow (look at the first picture again, focusing on the shadow beneath the tail end of the frame). While this is impressive work by any maker, keep in mind Hidetoshi is not modeling these knives out on a computer and CNC-ing them - he's making them with manual machines and hand tools! Exceptional design and execution with a subtle yet staggering level of attention to detail.
