About the UHEP: UHEP stands for Ultra High End Production. Many custom knife makers are putting out 'production' versions of their knives with varying levels of quality. Jake has said that he is actually 'a machinist who happens to make knives'. With that obsessive attitude towards precision and quality, With the Hoback, Jake has truly raised the bar with the Hoback UHEP line

HRD (Hoback Roller Detent): Most folder designs use a ball that is press fit (so it does not actually roll) into the lock bar to act as a detent to keep the blade closed as well as to keep the lock bar from dragging along the blade when opening. The HRD takes this to the next level. There is actually a captured bearing that fulfills the traditional detent roles BUT actually rolls and acts like a ball bearing. Therefore, friction is greatly reduced enabling the knife to have a better action. In addition, it allows for some adjustment as well as easy replacement for wear.

About CPM CRUWEAR: It all started years ago with VascoWear manufactured by Teledyne Vasco which was an incredibly tough alloy. Crucible Steel then later came out with their version called Cru-Wear (NOT CPM CruWear) that was their version of the alloy (slightly different formula). Then, Crucible took their patented Crucible Particle Metallurgy and again changed the alloy to create the CPM 3V that we all know and love. The alloy was changed slightly for CPM 3V as at the time the CPM process was not suited to higher alloyed materials. After years of refinement and Crucible able to apply the CPM process to materials up to 36% alloyed, they then we able to add back in the Tungsten, Manganese, and Silicon carbides of the original Cru-Wear and BOOM: CPM CruWear was born. It is an incredibly tough, wear resistant steel. Will take an edge and hold it through abuse.
